twin shifters too stiff

I just bough a 2005 Sea Ray 300 twin and the throttle shifter seems very Stiff is this normal

Pop the black cover off the shifter housing. There are two adjustment screws on the starboard side. One adjusts the tension and one adjusts the dente. Don't over loosen. If this doesn't solve the problem you may need to replace the cables.

If it's stiff when shifting it's probably due for new intermediate shift cables (from the motor to the outdrive), if it's the throttles themselves you may get lucky and only need to adjust the tension as stated above.

My 290 Sundancer has the same problem. My mechanic wants to replace the cables going to the outdrive, which I am in agreement with.
