TV

I know what they say about opinions...but here's my 2 cents

I personally prefer DirecTV. We've ben with them since around '02. They have good customer service (since they brought the call centers back to the US) & they have SEVERAL channels including HD channels that Dish doesn't offer.

That being said, I do wish they offered a cheaper monthly plan. We currently pay over $70 a month for the Choice Extra with locals which for us is too much ( I think). It's kinda like satellite radio...there's a handfull of channels that you love & the rest is crap. Also you can add $7 to whatever plan you choose for the DVR service, which is also BS.

I've looked at Dish before & they are a little cheaper, but they don't have a handfull of the channels we enjoy & in the end we wouldn't gain anything for changing. One thing Dish does have is somehow you can get HD free for life. My sister in law & her husband have it. I don't know what you have to go through to get it & I'm sure there's a contract to it. We don't have or need HD so it doesn't interest me.

Also the DVR reciever is well worth the $. How we watched TV before the DVR is totally different than how we watch it now. Rarely do we watch live TV & you can set it to record whole seasons of shows with a few presses of the buttons. If you are waching live TV you can pause it or rewind it if needed. Which is very nice.

It's a wash either way but that's my thoughts & I hope this helps! :smt024

Hands down.......DirecTv plus better satellite coverage and lots of room to add programming. whereas dish isn't quite as prepared for growth.

A pretty neat thing they do is to only charge about $5/month for added receivers. The idea is to subscribe to the DVR and programming on your primary receiver than add all you want at $5. One of mine is in my "RV"....care to guess where it is?

Another vote for DirecTV. Currently, there is a new plasma on it's way to our house... thanks Santa! So, we figured we'd upgrade our service (have had DirecTv for about 10 years) to HD. HD is free if you have automatic, direct bill. Even got them to waive the shipping for the new receiver.

Another plus for the $5/receiver thing, too... PA to ME is a little too far to run a cable!

I, as well, feel the packages are better suited for us. I can't compare this to Dish as I've never had Dish... but I've always been happy with the DirecTV customer service, too.

Direct TV or Dish Network
Can't decide for home and possibly boat down the road/ water.

I believe it is DirecTV that can be used with TracVision for the water. Not sure about Dish Network.

By the way, BOE Marine has some good deals on TracVision Units.

had direct TV swapped to dish network after lighting strike on house doses not work well in boat you haft to reprogram it every time you swap from shore power to gen set and will not swap to different satellites with out doing it on the unit cant wait to swap back to direct TV but extra box for dish network is only five dollars also

Started with DISH, now a DirecTV customer for the past 12 years or so. Have always been happy with it, other than the cost. But there's not much I can do about that (no Over-the-air here, no cable).

DirecTV has NFL Sunday Ticket! Been on that plan for about 8 of those years now. Again, expensive, but I gotta watch my team! Can't do that with DISH.

Direct TV on the boat and at home

Do what I do ... if you have cable or Sat. at home get a slingbox ( www.slingbox.com ) and watch it on your boat. There are pro's and cons but it works for me and I can watch my home tv on the boat or any where in the world as long as i have internet access and there is no monthly charge.
