How should I use a multimeter to rule out/in the existence of an issue with my TV signal?

Installed a new TV recently as all our signals went digital and TV worked great. One week later when we mounted it, worked fine for 10 minute, then we switched back on to "no signal".

Now, TV is a cheapy, but they're usually good a few years.

TV Antenna on arch has a light under it which is not lit, however I don't recall it ever being lit.

Figured I'd start with checking for a signal - what do I probe, what what settings and what am I looking for?

cheers all.

It might be as simple as confirming your signal source in the set up menu. Make sure the correct source is selected - cable, antenna, etc.

Do you have a Glomex? Make sure it is turned on too. (Sorry, just offering possibilities that "my buddy" has run in to. :smt101)

Both good points. I'm sure the unit is a powered one, hence the light underneath and it was my old man who was last to use it before it stopped working - technical challenged - so I can't be sure it hasn't had an alternate source selected.

Good excuse to go for a drive down there this afternoon maybe - bucketing down, close to 3 inches of rain in 24 hours... with 25kt winds....

Can u keep the Fr#####n rain and wind down there!

I had an issue with my tv reception on the boat, I bought a marine 12v tv (from somewhere that I am a dealer). I had a mate come down who installs home theatres etc for a living.

We ran all brand new coax through the boat, and he used the highest quality and fittings.

The aerial I have is a GME AE2000, I rewired the power cable up to it and ensured it was all powered up.

We could not got every channel, and we kept dropping stations, the mate was checking transmission towers with an app on his iPhone and manually tuning and we still could not lock in.

A few weeks later, I grabbed a new aerial and went down to the boat and tried it, same result, I tried the coax in the box with the new aerial, same result.

Out of sheer frustration I had taken a 32" Soniq (the JB Hi Fi brand tv) with me that we use for trade shows. Plugged it in, picked up every station perfectly.

Reinstalled the original antenna, same result perfect.

Sent the marine tv back for a credit.
