I recently picked up a 19-inch Insignia tv/dvd combo on sale at Best Buy. This is a 110-volt set; we considered a 12V but decided this would work fine. We don't watch that much tv to begin with, and if we feel the need, we do have an inverter to power it. After trying it in several locations, we decided to mount it on the locker door. It’s out of the way, the locker door still opens and closes just fine, and I can see it without wearing glasses ;-) To attach it, I made a mounting plate using ½ x 6 x 12 inch plywood, and screwed that to the back of the television, then attached the mounting plate to the door using 3M dual-lock tape. Strong stuff; the tv may seem to tilt forward in the image below but that’s because the plastic on the tv back is flexing.
After installing the tv, I needed to run some power to it. After conferring with Todd (Nehalennia), I decided to tap into the receptacle in the cockpit and bring power forward from there. I removed the access panel from inside the storage locker and the cupholder assembly from the cockpit wall, and ran 14/2 behind the head. This was pretty straightforward, as there's plenty of room between the hull and the wall of the head.
I marked and cut out a hole in the panel to the left of the storage locker door and installed a remodeler box, then installed the receptacle. I finished off by wire-stapling to the bottom of an adjacent panel then closed up the access panel.
Back in the cockpit, I ran the wire through loom and fastened it as seen below.
Finished product. I'll need a better antenna than the flat RCA one I currently have, but for now it's fine.
