So I bough this 12v tv that have the "brick" which converts it to AC 120v. I bought it because I think I read on here and other places that people cut the wire before the "brick" and spliced and ran 12v power that way. True? Just confirming I can do that. Btw it's a Supersonic SC-2412 tv. I can't seem to upload pic I took of back of tv. Where the the power cord plugs into on the back it says DC 12v. Thanks

I have done it, but if you inadvertently reverse the polarity of the power wires, you will damage your TV. You must identify + & - .

I do have the power cord with the brick and another cord that plugs into a cigarette lighter.

Thanks. I think I'll do use that cord then. Did you plug right into cigarette lighter or cut that part off and wired to fuse box or whatever?

btw- is there a ground that needs to be run within the DC cable jacket?

I had an accessory fuse in the fuse box under the helm in my 260. Pulled a hot wire and a ground wire from that and wired to the cigarette lighter plug. Plugged the male plug in and turned on the TV.

Just be careful, when the boat is running and charging it can get up to 14 volts and damage the tv.

Why wouldn't you run the 12v tv power cord right from tv(splice cord as it's prob not long enough, right to fuse box)

You could cut the wire and splice in extra wire and run it right to the fuse box. I ran the TV very little while the engine was running, but it does charge at 14.2-3 volts and never had a problem. If this were an issue, would it not potentially harm all 12v components?

I'm far from an expert but I thought the same thing. Just because the battery is charging at 14.2 volts (I always thought it was 13.8 but doesn't matter) does that mean the battery is outputting 14.2 volts? Why doesn't it wreck anything else on 12v if so?
