I'm looking to add some of the plastic hose to my A/C cooling water discharges and wondering if anyone knows what diameter (OD) hose is needed on a 39 / 40 Dancer? Access is tough for measuring until I can move to a port-tie dock.

Gotta get rid of those discolored streaks! :smt013

Thanks!

Not sure about your model, but mine uses 5/8". I use the clear and buy about 5' at a time. Then precut to required length and store in my dock box. I need to change out about three times per year as it gets discolored. It never falls out either.

I get it at home depot and it is very cheap, so you could probably buy only a foot of several sizes to test fit.

I must have gotten some that was a bit too large. What I did was to first cut it to length, and then slice it lengthwise and remove a little at a time until it fit in snugly, with the slice facing up of course. I finally did it this year when the boat was on the hard for waxing & bottom paint. I can't believe how well it is working. Using the tubing on A/C, gery water, and bilge pump discharge thry-hulls.

Just last week I added clear tubing to my 38s sump though-hull. The size I used was 1" OD and 3/4" ID, it was a perfect fit.

Air Conditioning raw water lines are 5/8" I.D.
Use the nylon reinforced vinyl hose, not the "plain", non-reinforced clear hose.

So 5/8" OD tubing should work? Are you going by your boat's fittings dimensions? Just thinking maybe they changed between your model year and mine.......

If you're asking if I'm 100% sure, nope...
But I can tell you that I've never seen a marine air conditioner (up to 16K BTU, anyway) that didn't use 5/8" I.D. hose for it's raw water lines. I just replaced my pump and one of the through hulls as well.

Not a matter of the boat...it's the equipment.

If you know your make/model of air conditioner you should be able to double check online.

Curious as why the nylon braid is better? Mine always holds it downward shape (it comes in a coil after all). Being that it discolor's frequently, the cheaper hose seem better for my purposes.

Wonder why the braided works better for you?

Yes, 5/8" ID for the raw water lines, but I think you misunderstood the question.

Aerobaticflyer is looking to add tubing to eliminate discoloring on his hull sides. The inside diameter of the discharge side of the though-hull is approximately 1". Plain clear 1" outside diameter hose worked just fine for me.

Thanks everyone.......I have some 1" OD reinforced tygon hose that I will try and insert into the fittings tomorrow. May need a little lube like a shot of anti-corrosion spray to help it out if the fit is too snug. I'm thinking I won't need a very long piece depending.......wait....I don't like the way this is sounding........

Yikes, nevermind! :wow:

Based on the number of folks (and some who I know that ave very particular about their boats) that do it I assume not but we'll see.

I'm actually thinking smaller diameter (due to the hose) equals greater flow velocity. Kind of the difference between CFM and PSI (air pressure reference). More pressure, less volume..........

After thinking about it, I agree.
I have a Mermaid Condensator installed on one of the lines, and that forces the flow to go through a 1/4" opening! Still works...

Well the person I bought my boat from had these installed and I have replaced a few for discoloration. I only need a piece about 1 inch long, slides right in and only sticks out about 1/2 inch and I have no stains, I am not sure, but I believe mind is 1/2 inch inside diameter.

Cheapest place I have found to purchase the tubing is Ace hardware about 43 cent a foot. I will check tonight and see about the size.

Slightly reduced inside diameter at the outlet does not seem to restrict flow on my boat. That is, the discharge does not seem to shoot out any further out from the opening. The great thing is that the dribble falls away from the tubing and misses the side of the boat.

I put the 1" OD tubing in the hull Friday.....works great! No more discharge runing down the hull creating stains.

Hey Sea Ray.........can you spell "OEM" going forward in hull designs? :smt038
