Ive been kicking around the idea of adding autopilot but considering my boat is only 33' and I only travel 300-400 miles a season maybe its a luxury I should skip.
The main reason I started thinking about adding it was when I found that I need a rate compass to allow my radar to overlay my chart.
But spending nearly $600 for an RC42n seems a bit expensive just for overlay.
Can I also use an older rate compass like the RC36? Those are easily found for $100 used and might be the answer.

Maybe simrad not so popular on csr?
Any other forums someone might suggest?

I have the nss7 but unfortunately I cannot help you out as I don't use auto pilot or any additional features other than the GPS and fishfinder

I just had a whole simrad electronics suite installed sans autopilot. I had a GPS25 antenna included to allow radar overlay. Less the 200.00 for the antenna.

I actually have one of those new on the box. Did you mount the GP25 a distance away? Im assuming it needs to be far away from the head unit in order to function properly.

I believe the Lowrance point-1 heading sensor is the cheapest route for having overlay. That being said, I dont think you would regret having autopilot, I have spent alot of $$ on toys for the boat and the AP was by far the best investment i made
