My port engine has had some belt noise for almost a year now, or so I thought. I replaced the serpentine belts on both engines about a year ago. The port has been squeaking a little, intermittantly since about then, if not earlier. At Idle, the frequency of the squeak is a little more than 1 squeak per second. It's worst at idle when I first start up. Then, as it warms up, it lessens.
Well, this past weekend, the intermittant squeak became a constant one, and is starting to sound a bit like a squeal.
Nothing is leaking. There isn't any sign of belt wear. I think it's either the idler pulley, the water pump (the one like a car has), or possibly the alternator. Where would you guys start, or how would you trouble shoot? Start taking stuff off left/right and swapping it?
