Looking to install a bow mount trolling motor on my 2007 185 sport. I was wondering if anyone has done this and if you have any suggestions? I called Sea Ray and they said the last fish/ski package was 05 and they mounted a Motorguide ( not a huge fan but.. ) SS 42" shaft with a # 16 bracket. Called Motorguide and they said obviously its not available anymore but the Varimax 75lb thrust, 52" shaft with Gator 20.8 mount would be the same. Just wanted to see if anyone has any ideas or suggestions? Thanks for your input.

A buddy of mine was telling me just the other day to install a trolling plate on my 200 for fishing. Never heard of them. Anyone ever install one of those? Might be easier than a whole trolling motor on the front.

That's true that in 2005 a trolling motor was an option on a 185... but... it was a different "185" than you have. That boat had a flatter bow area for mounting the motor. With a little ingenuity, anything is possible, but your bow set-up does make it a little more difficult. You might be able to do something, quite easily, with a board that spans the front bow area and attaches to the cleats... just the first thought.

Like mentioned above, you might consider looking into the trolling motors that attach to your outdrive. Once you're up on plane, they're completely out of the water. You'll get a small remote to control the speed and you'll, obviously, steer with your steering wheel. Sure, the bow mount would offer more maneuverability, though.

Yeah I was at BassPro the other day and they had a starboard plank mounted with four screws and different size rubber spacers to level it out. They just added the mounting bracket to that. Looked pretty good. It was on a Tahoe bowrider ski/fish with a bow that looked very close to the bow of my 07. Gonna give it a shot. LazyDaze thanks for the reply about the 05 and 07 185 sports, the bows are completely different. Much easier on the 05. Well when I do it Ill definitely post pics. Adding my Garmin 431s this week! Pretty excited

sturmin8R,
I'm curious how you ended up mounting your trolling motor? I bought a 2006 185 earlier this year and am trying to figure out how best to mount a trolling motor on it. I have found one example that looks great, just not easy to build myself. I'm attaching an image of it just incase anyone else is looking to do the same thing.

Where did you get this mount? I am wanting to do the same with my 185 sport.
That looks like a custom build by a welding shop. I would talk to a local shop and show them the picture and let them make a template from your actual boat. Probably won't be cheap and you'll need to make sure you do a good job securing it to the boat. Proper backing plates and stainless screw/bolts are a must since the trolling motor will put quite a bit of torque on the mounting. I had a fish-n-ski from 1994 that had a bow mounted trolling motor and it always came lose until I switched from the motor guide rubber mounts to through bolts.

I thought I would resurrect this thread...I recently saw a 240 Sundeck that had a bow mounted trolling motor and didn't realize it was possible. I am very interested in having one on my 210 Sundeck. Has anyone installed a trolling motor on their runabout? If so, pics? I'm curious to how the mount works structurally

I know this is an old thread, but I also have a 210 Sundeck and would be curious about a bow mounted trolling motor. Anyone have any info?
