Trim while on plane

So, I guess I need to finally ask this question. When the boat is up on plane, will it hurt anything to have the outdrive trimmed all the way down? My wife wants me to do this due to it making it a smoother ride. But I hear what sounds like the engine working harder/more pressure on the lower unit and my brain says it just can't be all that good to drive around with your lower unit trimmed all the way down.

For the record, I have a 2005 220 select w/350 mag mpi, I have owned it since it was new and I just hate having the trim all the way down while on plane. It sounds like my wallet getting smaller....

Thanks for any replies.

Trimming at higher speeds does push the boat through the water more efficiently but leaving the drives in the down position will not hurt anything.

Trimming while on plane all the way down will not hurt anything except your wallet as you'll be making more frequent visits to your friendly gas station and/or marina fuel dock. Keep in mind that trimming all the way down turns your boat into a water plow, all of that resistance will reduce your top speed and will increase your fuel consumption.

Theoreticaly trimming all the way down at high speeds increases the chance flipping the boat in high speed turns.... Have I ever seen or really heard of it....? No. It is probably just one of those blanket warnings in your operating manual. So I say play with it. Make the wife happy, and just be aware of it and slowly progress into getting a feel for how the boat handles in such situations. As for harm to the vessel other wise. Nope

Tonka Boater..On my 280 DA I am trimed middle way between 1/4 and 1/2 on my trim guage. I could trim well past 1/2 way on my old 230BR
