ok, I started a new thread from a previous problem when I had a bellow leaking, and decided to change out some old parts for some new stuff and have opened a hornets nest I think! so while tracing down wires to trim limit I found that shifter cable is frayed, was supposed to new last yr from PO....NOT THE CASE!! so back to wires, I traced them down to disconnect and tie string to feed the new ones through, how ever 1 set of the wires goes to the mercathode?????? is this correct??

Not sure what you are saying. There are two pairs of wires from the trim limit switch and the trim sender, they go through the transom assembly up high and are a PITA to change with the outdrive on the boat. The Mercathode wires enter the boat at the bottom of the transom assembly down where the trim hoses go through. They then enter the Mercathode through a small hole in the bottom of the transom assembly hidden by the Mercathode and also sealed by it.
What wires are frayed? Are we talking about the shift cable or the trim sender/limit wires? Or are we talking about the Mercathode wires? Need more detail to help.

mercathode wires are brown and orange, trim limit and trim sender are like black lamp cord
you cant just change one of them(limit or sender) without removing both first
see page 4B-21 in here http://www.*******.com/merc/Servmanl/14/14b4.pdf
copy and paste then replace the *`s with b,o,a,t,f,i,x no comma`s
or join iboats and the link works directly

I am changing both, trim switches and shift cable. however, drive is removed for all the other work I am doing, but one of the wires(strbd) goes to the mercathode, from the sender not to the trim pump as my (port)trim limit wire does?? so I only see 2 sets of wires coming....sender wire and limit wire not 3 sets I will post pics from my phone to help understand better cause say and seeing is totally different thanks r he help

the sender and limit wires enter the boat above the water inlet hose, the mercathode wires enter from the bottom of the transom and are individual wires not the black lamp cord wires of the senders

image.jpgIn this pic the wire with the red end is the other end of the wire that my index finer on in the previous pic which come from my TL switch
