Aloha!

I have an '83 Sundancer 270. Neither of the trim gauges are wired (per previous owner) or are just not wired at all. Any ideas on the wiring?

Thanks!

James

Pretty broad statement/question James. There a ton of guys here on CSR that can answer just about any question you may have, but they'll need more specifics.

Neither of the gauges are wired? - Why not? Did he just rip the wiring out? Was some drive work done without running the wires thru? Did the senders crap out?(likely). The drives do move up & down right?

Anyhow, I'm not being a smart azz but... Specific questions lead to specific answers. You can use the advanced search feature to read threads dedicated to the subject. I'll bet though that you'll need new senders, properly wired through the drives.

BTW, Welcome to CSR!

Thanks mwph.

You mentioned the trim sender which helped my google search for a solution or at least the likely solution. My symptoms match a trim sender / limiter failure as I am getting no trim reading on the gauges and only the trim DOWN works on the throttles I have to use the trailer tabs to move trim UP.

I was hoping it was a wiring problem because what are the odds that both sensors on both engines are bad at the same time?

James,

It definitely sounds like the trim senders went bad, which is a very common problem. They can be replaced but it's not a quick or easy job to do correctly and from what I've read, the replacement units don't always last very long. I'd wait until you need to do your bellows and make your decision at that time.

Here's a thread I had created when I was trying to decide whether I should replace the senders:
