trim gauge not working

The trim gauge on my 240 Dancer did not work most of this past season. My boat has a 5.7 with Bravo 3. When I pulled the boat out I checked the sender and could find no broken wire so I pulled it apart. When I checked the disk that moves, some of the metallic coating apeared to be missing so I;m guessing that's the problem. Any where that you can get just that component of the assembly you normally buy from Merc? Anyone ever try to repair this issue. I've got all winter to find a part so any lead would be great.
 
They are poorly engineered junk. I gave up trying to keep mine working.
 
What Quint said!! I just kept getting mine replaced every 3-4 years. An electronic moving part under salt water, can't expect much.

So sensors aren't a bad price but don't you have to pull drive to complete the job? Sounds like a lot of work if I could just find the component.
 
Yes, you have to pull the drive. The wires have a cover plate and bolt where they penetrate the transom. Here is a shot of mine:
