Today was my first time out this season and my first problem. My smart craft gauge is showing a Trim Fault. The power trim works fine, but the analog trim gauge shows full down, and the smart craft gauge shows 0.0 . Where should I start?

I'm watching this one! I get that occasionally on my starboard side but gauge works and trim sync works:huh:

I had this happen too and after my annual drive service it went away. My mechanic said that over time the drives may occassionally beyond where the factory originally had them set when in the full down position. I guess when he was putting everything back in place after the service and tightend up all the components it solved the problem. Had that not worked he said a new trim limit or and/or trim sensor switched would've been necessary.

Have you tried calibrating? If not, there is a calibration procedure in your Smartcraft manual. If this doesn't work you may have a bad sending unit.

I finally got my boat back and the problem was a poor connection in the wiring harness. My mechanic said the jack plug was together, but not locked. He used some dielectric grease and put it back together. I am going to the lake tomorrow for a test.

"He used some dielectric grease and put it back together."

Silicone dielectric compound is some serious bad ass sh!t, why it is not used on every connector in the marine industry is beyond my comprehension.

The following responses should be quite entertaining...

I have the same problem and have been told I would need a new trim sending unit. Where is this plug connection that came loose?
I have calibrated my unit and it did not help.

It is finally fixed! It was a calibration error. I tried to calibrate the trim myself, but did not do it correctly. After Marine Max left Allatoona Lake, I tried some one new, and they did not have a clue. I searched old post on csr and found a list of mechanics that were recomended on Allatoona. I went to see Ken at Holiday Harbor. He had me up and running in 10 minutes, and He refused to take any money for his time. Two thumbs up!

Did he calibrate at the gauges on the dash or at the senders on outdrive?

Finally after the fault returned. My mechanic cleaned the sender. I noticed that just after calibration the trim gauge and the Smart Craft were not reading the same. After opening the sender and cleaning everything is fine. I have been out several times with no problems.
