Called about a 2002 BR today, and it was priced the way it was because a windstorm knocked over a small tree (or branch) that fell across the bow and bounced off the rails to the ground. The bow rails are slightly bent, and the attachment points (where the rails mount to the hull) to the boat show cracks from the downward-blow to the rail. Otherwise good shape.

If anyone is willing to hazard a WAG as to how much should I discount the price to repair / replace rails and fiberglass/gelcoat (cosmetic) on a 20' bowrider, I'd be an appreciative feller.

Thanks:thumbsup:

Do you have pictures? Have you inspected carefully to ensure there is no other (hidden) damage?

Be sure to look at the bottom of the boat. If it got hit hard enough to break the hull where the rails mount, then all of that force was absorbed by the bottom of the hull where it was sitting. I assume that it was on a trailer? If it has bunks, you may need to inspect the entire length of the boat from the inside in the areas adjacent to where the bunks are. If it has rollers, then you've got lots of places to look for damage.

If the branch was only large enough to bend the rails and crack the outer gel coat at the mounts, I seriously doubt the force was great enough to cause any hull damage underneath. Just my .02

That's my guess too. Should have pictures later today. The wife was dispatched to look at it, since she works in the area, and I'm going on her description (after she got done talking about the color scheme...) that the rails were slightly bent, and the fiberglass / gelcoat had "cracks".

I'll post pics as soon as I get them.

One of my bow rails is bent in on one side too, and I have slight hairline cracks in my gel coat around the mounts. Likely from people just yanking on them.

I wouldn't worry about any structural damage.
