Hi,

Does anyone have a rough guess as to what it would cost to transport a Searay Sundancer 29 1992 from Brighton Marina to Portishead Marina (UK)

Approx 172 miles

I understand that the weight is around 4.4 tons which means it would need to go on a lorry.

Any help much appreciated.

Indiana, I don't know about the highway laws and towing laws in the UK, but a 290 Sundancer is an easy an easy boat to tow. I had a 330 Sundancer and towed it several times, once over the Cascade Mountains in WA state.

Have you given any thought to cruising it on that trip? I don't know what the waterways are like where you would be taking it but it could be a fun trip.

Hi, thanks for your message. Seemingly here in the UK anything over 4 tons (irrespective of size) needs to be transported on a lorry, and it's this form of transport which will cause the cost to be expensive. Someone suggested around £1000 or more?

I am hoping to find a company from the Portishead region who is delivering a boat to the Brighton region, that way I only need to pay for one way.

The engines will need a massive overall (One not working at all) before I could sail the boat around the coast, otherwise that would have been my first choice.

So a boat trailer is not an option? If it needs to be loaded onto a flatbed I can see it costing some money due to the outrageous price of fuel in the Euro Union.

I was told yesterday by a guy who trailers boats around the UK that after the 4 ton mark, UK government road legal safety issues come into effect.

May or may not be true but its the only comment I have as yet had.

If there is anyone reading this from the UK who has transported a 4 ton motorboat nationally I would very much like their input?

Indiana, first thought I had some advice but realized you are in the UK. Have you tried UShip? It looks like they are in the UK. Here is how we roll in the US, one ton diesels and wide load permits! Good luck!
