Looking to move my boat from inland NH lake to the coast, preferably RI. But can always drop her in NH area and run her down. Anyone recommend a transport company? Idea of cost per mile? I really dont want to take my boat apart to do this - can I leave my top on? One transport company told me it had to come off and I don't see why. This guy also told me pods might have to come off as they hang too low for a low boy trailer.

The top will probably have to come off. According to Sea Ray, you are looking at about 13-14' between the keel and the top, assuming you strip off all electronics. Also, the pods hang below the keel, increasing the total vertical clearance needed. Put that on any trailer, and you are going to hit just about every bridge you encounter. These guys know what you they are doing.

Now, for a shorter distance, they MAY be able to plot a route that avoids any bridges or other overhead obstructions, but it would mean detouring off the highway for every exit (will it clear the traffic lights?), etc., and can add miles for additional routing. But it might be possible that dropping it in the water in NH allows for such a routing.

Either way, it's going to be expensive, but if you can avoid removing the top, that could be a substantial savings of money and time. Then again, what are the operating costs to get her from NH to RI in the water after it gets moved to the coast? Everything needs to be considered. You don't have a cheap boat there.

I would take that in a heart beat. First quote I got was 4k! My big concern is taking down a fully enclosed bridge. Sea Ray dealer only to do the work? Or reputible marina? Any idea how much that will run?

Was the boat sold by a dealer on the lake? If so I would talk to them. At least to get some information. The boat got to Winnipesaukee. I do miss Wolfboro.

I was under the impression that you're looking to transport 43DA. Where's "fully enclosed bridge" on that boat?

Many years back I've transported my 320DA from FL to NJ and from I recall 13.5'-14' is your target height limit. So, you take off whatever is needed to achieve this. Double check the specs to determine keel to the top of the arch. I had to remove everything mast light and the radar leaving only small GPS antennas. With props off I was good to go. Some transporters said I'll have to remove the arch, but with low profile trailer and slightly more costly permits it wasn't necessary.

My advice, don't get too focus just on the dollar figure for transportation. There are always hidden costs. The truck is late, you pay extra for marina slip. Whatever is taken off will be required a full stress testing to make sure it was put back right. It usually takes much longer to get everything back in order than we initially estimate. Having long distance delivery by land and sea I will always prefer the sea on anything 35'+ vessel. If your biggest concern is fuel cost, then break your trip such way that you can go slow some sections and save on fuel in exchange for engine hours.

Also, comparing the two I look at the trucking as nothing more than just hassle and work. Delivery by sea is mostly pleasure and unforgettable experience. Even when it get rough you're still cruising and building your sea legs. Make a trip out of it and you'll love it.

To get more details on reputable transportation and assembly, search for Hampton's thread where he shared his experience transporting 44DB by land.

Forgive me as I did say 'enclosed bridge' but meant enclosed cockpit. Gonna be a task to re rig this boat and that is weighing on me. Spoke to marine max service rep today (that alone is enough to make me pause) about rigging the boat when if/when it gets to RI. Wini SeaRay dealer will take it apart. Reputable hauler in NH offers the rigging as well but I am not sure how I feel about that?

Full water delivery is just not possible. I can either go short route to portsmouth NH and float her down. Maybe even to Boston and thst way I can avoid Marine Max and use Russo. But delivery from the north to Boston has got to be a disaster.

Stay away from Russo's.... Just saying...

I would ask the haulers to find a path to any marina on the coast where (a) they can avoid overhead obstructions and (b) they can put the boat in the water. I would be much less concerned about where, exactly, it goes in, as long as the have the facilities to pull it off the trailer and put it in the water. That will be the fastest/cheapest option.

Barring that, once you have to take the top and/or pods off, I think you'll find the transportation costs aren't necessarily the most expensive portion of the exercise.

I would do just that.

We moved our 43' Tiara with pods and hardtop from NJ to Miami at the end of 2012. We removed all items from the hardtop (radar, sat, vhf ect) as well as the props from the pod drives. Everything else remained intact including the hardtop and the pod drives. You have to find someone experienced with moving pod boats, I would contact Sea Ray directly and ask who they recommend.

Got in touch with the guy who handles most of the local NH moves - he just delivered a brand new 43 Marquis SB to the lake. He told me he can get it anywhere with just the electronics and the little radar arch of the boat. Miles Marine. Keep you guys posted on how expensive he is!

If he's not bad I have a sweet 310 Formula BR for sale - 10 hrs on her!:smt021
