Looking for a needle in a haystack: I'm searching for a used transom door for a 2006-2008 38' Sundancer Hardtop. Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

SR replaced my door about 2 months ago. Don't know what they did with the old door though. The new door came form the Merritt Island facility. The orginal door would not latch properly and MM could not adjust it to latch properly. The door looked like it was not aligned with seams between the top and bottom not having equal spacing..kind of tapered look. The new door fit better, not perfect..but the latch now works and is safe (won't snap open). The new doors have the SR emblem molded in like on the larger boats. Maybe you could inquire to the SR facility is Merritt Island and see if they have some "old" doors you could get cheap! I think a little glass work on the hinge side would fix the alignment issue of these doors.

Why would you buy a door that was replaced because it was defective?

Your best avenue is going to be your dealer. The OEM manufacturer has a proprietary agreement with Sea Ray and Flounder Pounder buys leftovers and returns......go back to my first comment. Uless the door on the 38 is no longer used on any Sea Ray, FP is likely only going to have defectives.

Frank,

My point was with a little glass work on the hinge side it would be fine. That's what I thought SR would do...not replace the entire door. If it were out of my pocket then I would have just added some glass to help get the latch better engaged. Cosmetically the door was fine, the gap spacing was just not equal..thus the tapered look.

So to answer your question, if the price was right for the "defective" door and I knew the defect could be corrected easily and not look like a kludge then I would choose such. Boating is a hobby to me so my time may not be as valuable $wise, but I understand why SR would choose to replace the door...especially since they did the same to my dockmate's 38 as well.

I thought the door was plastic  That would make it hard to tweak if so. Every 38 I have seen, the color does not match and I remember a thread here about it in the past. FWIW, one of my dock neighbors has fitment issues on his also. SB

My doors seems like fiberglass, looks and feels like glass, however you are right about the color. The orginial door was about 3/16 inch short in width. MAybe the fitment issue is why SR made a new mold. I will take a closer look next time I'm out to the boat.

The doors I have seen on 38DAs are acrylic and not Fiberglass. Apparently that's why the colors don't match the gelcoat sometimes. We have a 2006 in our Marina now that is way off color. Maybe Sea Ray went to a Fiberglass door as a replacement on the latest models.

I also have an acrylic door on my 260DA and I have had to "tweak" the door to get it to fit. But about the only thing you can do with these doors is remove material from them. That's what I did with mine. I had to remove material from the hinge side to get it to fit better.

I have a 2008 38DA with the acrylic door and SR is replacing it... same thing is happening with my neighbor who has a similar boat. They told me the replacement door is fiberglass and has the SR logo but I haven't seen it yet.
