I have a 1986 300 weekender i was wondering where do you guys mount your transducer on the transom or should i buy a new one to go thru the hull .Rather than drill hole in transom all my other boats I did thru transom just was not so keen on this one because it will truely be under water line if on transom

Thanks :huh:Marty

All transducers come with instructions as to where to mount them on the transom. But, the jist of it is that a transducer should be mounted in such a fashion so as to be in "clean" water when running at speed. This means away from edges, such as lifting strakes, and also not too close to the tunnel (or the prop wash). While a transom mounted ducer can work just fine, the best way is to drill a hole through the bilge floor and use a thru-hull ducer. A "shoot-thru" is another option, but it often requires some trial and error for correct placement.
