Over the last few years I have a little water in the forward bilge. Everyone told me this is normal. In this time frame I have had a few water leaks as well (water heater, fresh water pump, coolant hose, etc.) so I never put a lot of thought into it. I also never noticed the forward bilge pump coming on, until this weekend. While floating in the lake Sunday, I saw the bilge pump a small amount (couple of cups) of water. Then again yesterday when I stepped on the boat after being at the shower house. Now I’m curious. The only thing in ghat bilge is the AC sea strainer and I believe what is a transducer. There doesn’t appear to be water draining in from the sides. I had it bottom painted last year. If it is a transducer, what is the good the bad and the ugly of a slight leak there? Any other ideas what it may be?

My boat is '98 also and I have replaced over 90% of the freshwater connectors as they all seem to fail sooner or later. I have also replaced the splitter on the a/c water pump 2x. We boat in saltwater so for me the first thing I do is smell it (making sure it's not shit water) and then taste it checking for salt or fresh. For many years I had red coolant in the port engine and green coolant in the starboard one, just in case they was coolant in the bilge I would know where to look.

completely dry the area . towel dry, then sprinkle the dusty chalk that you put in the chalk line tool (or similiar powder) Sprinkle all around the area as close to "wall" as possible. Sit back and wait, checking often. It should leave a tell-tale line from where water enters. Patience is key. If its the transducer it will get wet around base first.
