I’m trying to figure out how my transducer is connected to my classic e120 in my Sundancer 390. If I understand it correctly I should have a DSM30 or 300 somewhere between the transducer and the MFD. is this correct? If so, where in the boat would it be hiding? I know I can tear it apart and follow the cable but I’m Trying to avoid that step

You will definitely have a dsm30 or 300, usually they are close to the e120's. It's about 6x9" and about 1.5" thick. Three cables connect to it, power, Ethernet and the transducer cable, all come out the "bottom".

All the previous boats I have had it was under the dash, Behind the GPS.
This remove the whole dash panel with the GPS in it and you will see it.

If I remove the MFD there is a VCM100 and a Ray120 module behind it.

I guess I will be chasing the wire. I need to figure out exactly what I have before ordering a new MFD.

This is what you are looking for. While you are digging, make sure you find the transducer model # and take a picture of the printed tag. SR usually wire ties the excess somewhere down in the bilge. You may have more than 1 transducer if you have a separate Speed/depth/temp display installed, so try to identify all of the installed transducers as its pretty easy to get their data on a new network/MFD.

Depending on your DSM30/300 existing transducer, there are a number of adator cables that plug together and you can use the onboard fishfinder. I had a Airmar B60 in mine, and the cable ($50) highlighted below was the one I needed.

Not necessarily - the xdcr could be NMEA 0183 or Seatalk 1. I think the DSM based sounder was part of the electronics package option. Most got that option.

Also, the DSM's connect to the chartplotter using an ethernet connection (Seatalk HS) which is the large connector on the back of the E120 and has the standard RJ-45 ethernet socket.
So if your E120 has the Seatalk HS wiring connected to it then follow that wiring to either a Raymarine router and then to the DSM device or directly to a DSM.

Should the DSM be listed on the build sheet?

Okay so transducer data is coming in on the nmea0183 network. I will need to open my hatch and find the actual number on the transducer tag. It’s still going to need a box to drive it, right?

Nope, no black box - the Xdcr puts the formatted data on the 0183 network and that depth is displayed directly by your instruments.
That data does not display a bottom / fish profile only digital depth and possibly temperature display. The DSM actually profiles the bottom and will display fish.

Okay. So that makes the RV vs non-RV models a moot point. No reason to get the RV model axiom. The axiom pro does have a nmea0183 network built in or I could use a nmea0183 to nmea2000 converter on the axiom+.

I’m leaning towards the axiom+ and a converter. The pro seems to have better networking built-in, but the axiom+ has a marginally better screen(so I hear). I can add external networking devices, but can’t add a sharper screen to the pro
