Trans Oil Cooler 7.4L w/V Drive

Planning some preventative maintenance and considering replacing my transmission oil coolers. Looking up the part numbers found the original, 807996T, cooler has been superseded by, 862837T. It seems both cooler part numbers can still be purchased. However, there is a big difference in length between the two coolers. Has anyone replaced their original coolers with the newer one? If so did you run into any issues?

Also, do you consider replacing the transmission cooler a preventative maintenance item?

I used these people to replace mine. I did oil and transmission. Cost for 2 engines was $450
