I'm changing all the fluids in the boat and I have a question on the trans fluid, specifically the v drive fluid. I have ZF transmissions with the v drives separate from the transmissions. They call for an SAE30 oil. My question is since the ZFs take an SAE 30, do the v drives take SAE 30 also? And also detergent or non detergent? I'm thinking everything is going to be the SAE 30 in a detergent but needed to hear it from someone who knows. Thanks!

There are lots of threads on this, some people use a single weight oil, tractor oil or Dextron III. I used Dextron III after agonizing over it, I have not had a problem whatsoever. Change filters, soak old filters in mineral spirits and keep for the next time you change the fluid. Hale marine had the filters for my ZF fairly cheap. The ZF Manual lists all of the recommended oil brands
