Tranny fluid questions

Can someone recommend a brand/model of tranny fluid and amount for an 88 model B/W in a 300 Weeekender? The old book says Dextron III or whatever is current.

On good advise, I used Coastal in the gallon jugs from my local Autozone.....$11.99/gallon.

I use Coastal as well, based on recommendation on this forum. Easier with the gallon jugs.

Can you verify the type fluid needed by looking on the gear case? Most Borg Warner Velvet Drives require hydraulic oil, not ATF........Mobil 424 was recommended by B/W. I'd just rather you be safe then sorry since the additives are completely different between AFT and gear oil.

I picked a gallon of Costal at Autozone, as recommended. It says it is 80-100 weight Gear oil. Correct?

Mine is Automatic Transmission Fluid, they may have both - I didn't pay attention. Mine met the Dexron III requirements.
