Trailering a Vintage 300

Duramax here....love it.....made for pulling heavy stuff all over hell and back.

Diesel yes. The back up torque surpasses (sp?) a gasser all day long. Although a I believe a gasser could do it I suspect the trans would suffer dearly.

I'm surprised that electric brakes are a better choice over hyd surge. I love surge brakes. But as I give it some thought, both my boat trailers had to have complete hydraulics replaced. Electrics may hold up to the water a little better and you can grab a handfull of trl brake when stopping.

I'm in northern lower Michigan permit wise. Sounds like this is all very doable. Seems like one is always looking at his next boat. And when he runs out a truck ... ! Thanks ...Ron

You can throw on a plow an make extra $$$$$ for that next boat and truck. You guys get some Serious SNOW up there!!:wow:

Surge hydraulics give you zero braking while backing down a slippery steep ramp with a whole lotta boat behind you. I like having electrics for that reason and I enjoy the ability to adjust them "on the fly". ...oh yeah and they are inexpensive. I converted my trailer from surge to electric for under $300.

Thanks guys. I'm sold on electrics. ...Ron

BTW: It's still snowing Lake Michigan.

It's supposed to Snow here Monday gotta put the plow on and change the fluid this weekend. These threads sure wonder all over from towing a 30' SR to brakes to snow and snow plowing can't say it isn't educational or something like that.:smt101:smt043
