Trailer tire advise

From what I've read here and on other forums getting from point a to point b with a trailer without problems is kind of rare. Jeff

I disagree with your take from all this. I have pulled trailers all over the midwest, and the two time I had issues were with a new to me trailer I had not maintained yet. If you follow these recomendations you will be well on your way to rare on the road issues. Good luck, MM

Agree with Mike, take care of the trailer and you will be okay. That means bearing maintenance, tire inspections, and load considerations.
Get an IR gun from Harbor Freight to watch the tempature of your bearings and tires. On a long run, I usually stop at least every 100 miles to check tempatures and look things over.

Another vote for Maxxis radials - specifically the M8008. I've had good luck with the Goodyear Marathons in the past on travel trailers but wasn't happy with them on the boat. Nice to have new E rated tires vs. the D's the trailer came with.

16" Load Range E for me and 80lbs PSI. They never get hot if inflated properly and not overloaded. My trailer and boat are setup for 12,500lbs, Mike.

If I could use 16's I would've running the Michelin LTX RIB 16's!

Todd, we agree on something...lol

That's good to hear MM. Thanks for the reassurance. I practice good maintenence on my machinery so I'm looking forward to some relatively trouble free trailering once I get this trailer roadworthy.

Jeff

I have 30 trailers and the Goodyear Marathon and Carlisle are by far the least reliable tires I have seen. They are both made in the same factory, with Goodyear owning Carlisle.

For your 14" wheels the best tire that money can sometimes buy is the trailer tire U-Haul uses. If you have a big U-Haul shop in the area or a very customer friendly Goodyear shop you might be able to purchase some. They are not available for retail sale according to the side of the tire.

If anybody in the Dallas area uses their trailer local only and wants nearly bald but no dry rot tires I end up with over 50 every year. Price is free!
