Hi,

I've just joined CSR because I'm on the prowl for a new (used) boat, and I'm narrowing in on a 220 Signature Select. But my question is this:

What trailer would be required for a 220SS ? There are boats in my area for sale without trailers, and trailers for sale as well. Never bought a trailer before. For example, I've seen a nice tandem trailer advertised as a "20 foot trailer" - will this be too small due to balance or will it be OK and the boat sticks out more?

Thanks in advance!

HH

You need to find out the weight of the boat. Once you have that you can buy the trailer accordingly. Trailers are more so based on their weight carrying capacity than the size of the boat. Remember it's not just the dry weight of the boat - allow for fuel and gear too when you shop.

Also check the laws in your state regarding brakes. Some states (like NJ) require brakes on both axles of a tandem axle trailer. A good trailer dealer could help you out if you wanted to call or go and pick their brain.

My 230 has an advertised empty weight of 3,800 lbs and my Loadrite trailer has a load carrying capacity of 5,400 lbs. This will give you a ballpark figure for an idea of capacities. I think my trailer is designed for hulls in the 22' - 24' range.
