Could really use some help from anyone familiar with boat trailers.:smt100

I'm redoing the cross members on the trailer and have a chance to change the locations of the bunks if I want to....the question is, should I??? I'd like to eliminate the two smaller ones if possible.

Here's the current set-up. 4 bunks. 2 large ones (4x6's) outboard of the stringer on the boat and 2 smaller ones (2x6's) inboard of the stringer.

A buddy has suggested that if the larger pair were directly under the boat stringers that it should be sufficient and I could eliminate the smaller pair.

Thoughts?????

PS: SeaRay 265....9K wet.

Do not place the stringers on the bunks. I was told that by the EZ Loader manufacturers when I asked about moving the bunks on a previous boat I owned.

The more bunks the more distribution of total weight.

I would absolutely contact the trailer maker and ask their advice. They all have email so send the trailer info and ask...

As far as pics go, I don't have any pics of the Pre-Busted trailer with the boat. I could take some pics of the broken crossmembers and some of the work I'm doing right now to repair.

Doug- I wonder why they recommend not placing the bunk under the stringer??? You're right, I'll get ahold of the trailer co. and get their recommendation. Thanks for the lead.

In this case more is better than less. You want the hull to take the road jars and distribute it throughout the hull.
Another thought is the loading characteristics of the trailer. Is you are not having any issues loading the boat now why take a chance on having issues if you eliminate 2 bunks?

Just my opinion. Is it isn't broken then don't fix it.
