Trailer Brakes

Help every one. I have a metalcraft trailer for my 260da with 4 wheel electric drum brakes. First thing I noticed last year was I could use the hand control on controller and I could not lock up the tires at slow speed. I didn't see this as a problem due to the fact I weight 9000#s. Coming back from lake powell in october we ran into some rain and I noticed some steam coming off one wheel. I am not one to just dump this off at a brake shop and say have at it without some knowledge as to what is going on. I have done brake jobs myself on everything I have ever owned but know nothing about electric brakes. Thanks everyone.

I am at a loss as to why there are electric brakes on a boat trailer, that gets dunked in the water. :smt101

The one that I had was eqiuped with surge brakes, which was also a pain. :smt017

In any event, the reason you saw steam was that the brakes were tight, and need to be slacked off a bit.

very likely it is electric over hydraulic not straight electric. :smt001 Brakes too tight.. or sticking shoe? Would be hard to tell without pulling the thing apart.
