Does anyone have a picture of their 34' (or smaller) Sea Ray with the new M1 KVH TracVision Antenna mounted they could post.
I personally believe the KVH 4 antenna is too big for my boat and am considering replacing it with the M1.

Thanks

It's not a 34' or smaller boat, but it is the new M1 antenna. It's a little bugger and hardly noticeable.

I don't see anything wrong with it...looks like you have something "special" under the hood.

Here is a view of my M1 mounted with a Seaview dual mount on my arch from stbd aft. I have an M3 that I thought about mounting but, like you I think it is just too big for my little cruiser!

Wow!!! Sorry this is so big!!! How can I make it smaller?

Note: I wasn't able to make the pic smaller but I did find a better pic of the M1 install

I'm getting ready to put a HD7 on a 44DB with a Hard Top. I'm worried it'll be too big too, but, I don't have a lot of options with the performance I'm expecting to achieve.

The manufacturer recommends putting the HD-7 on the back end of the hard top and elevating the open array radar forward of it. Hopefully, that's what we'll do.

The good news is that we won't see it from the boat.

I take my lappy with me to watch internet TV and its free. :smt001

I wouldn't spend that kind of money to just watch the boob tube. :smt021

Not spending money to watch the boob tube. My wife and I love our college sports and some other tv programming (NFL, some shows). We are moving aboard the boat for a couple of months a year to start. It's a hell of a lot more expensive to miss a weekend on the boat than it is to outfit it to make it more like home. No excuses - we'll be on the boat.

Try spending extended periods on the boat with 3 small children. They don't want to hear that spongebob is home ( or driving Wayne's boat)!!

Peace and quiet- Priceless!!!

There are only so many times you can sit around singing kumbaya my friend :smt009.

We spend every weekend on the water and would not swap our kvh for anything. Sports, news, weater, it just don't get any better.

Pearl,
Great Pic!!!!!
The only thing missing is the big flat screen that you can see from the water!:smt043:lol:

We have a 32" samsung flat screen we hang from the arch that we can watch from the water. It's pretty cool at night floating in the water. I'll find a picture and post it later.

Pearl,
That is friggin awesome!!! I was just kidding but, you are now my new hero!!

I can't wait to see that pic. Can you give some info on the mount you used and possibly a pic of that too if available? I would love to do something like that for the nights sitting on the dock over @ Fire Island.
We actually just upgraded all of our Restaurant TV's to LED so, I have a bunch of LCD 1080p TV's jamming up the office. I could grab one of those and toss it in!!

I was going to install a 2-way HDMI splitter to watch the Bluray on both cabin TV's but, now I think I will get a 4-way and send one up to the arch!!

I purchased my boat last October and it already had KVH equipment installed with (2) Direct TV receivers but no service. I called Direct TV today and ordered the service, they said I couldn't reuse the receivers I already had if I wanted to take advantage of the promotion for new customers, with the new agreement I get (1) HD receiver for free and the other I purchased for $99. I'm scheduled March 14th for installation but I remember hearing that Direct TV installers don't install on boats? I already have everything installed except for the (2) new receivers. Can someone explain what their process was like?

Jon,
That is BS!! The person you spoke with probably is commision based and gets paid on the new equipt. you get.
The standard boxes for home use are not plug and play compatable with the KVH. The boat receivers utilize a stacked signal from the dish. The KVH box also puts out 40vdc to power the dish. If you want to use a home receiver you need to install a signal destacker AND a splitter with a DC block. The KVH also cannot receive an HD signal from Directv unless you have the HD-7 , which costs a whopping $12K.

You need to call Directv back and tell them that you don't need the new boxes. You should be able to give them your box SN's & the card number. From that they should be able to activate your system. If this does not work, give KVH a call. Their tech support has been quite good in my experience with them!

Good Luck!

Todd,
Thanks for the info, talking to Direct TV was an adventure. I explained to them it was for a boat and they insisted the equipment is the same. I will call them tomorrow and modify my current order. What package do you have for your boat? Is it a mobile package or just the standard Choice package?

Thanks,
Jon

Jon,
It definitely can be an adventure talking to the sales dept @ Directv. I will say this though, they have one of the best customer service dept's that I have ever dealt with for existing customers!

I had Directv installed at my house before I installed the KVH on my boat so it was as easy as adding a receiver to my account for $5 more a month!:smt001
Then when I wanted another receiver onboard I called Directv Cust. service and asked if I could get another receiver for my house. They gave me another DVR & standard receiver, since I was still considered a new customer, for free! I then installed the aforementioned electronics to make it compatable and now bring a receiver from my house for the summer!

As far as programming, that is a personal choice. I get everything on the boat that I get at home. I have the basic package, which is pretty expansive, as well as all the HBO, Showtime, Encore and Starz channels. BTW, they should give you all of these for free for 3 months when you sign up. I also add the NHL Center Ice Package and the Sunday NFL ticket. Directv is the only NFL Sunday Ticket provider BTW! Good Luck!!
Let me know if you need any further help!
