tracvision 4 support HD ?

using a tracvision 4 from 2006 with HUGHES MODEL-SD-HBH stock set up from searay.

i want to get into hd or at least digital and hdmi cabling to improve the picture quality.

will any new direct tv dss hd receiver work?

As far as I know if your using the KVH Tracvision brand you need the M7 to receive Directv in HD. The cost is about $12k. Some of the other models MAY be able to receive Dishnetwork in HD. I would recommend reviewing their website. There are also other brands that you may want want look at. Intellian and RayMarine come to mind. You just need to do a little research.

just took a track vision 4 off our boat. i think the receiver was a sony though.
if its here i'll look and see what connections it used (might still be in dock box at the lake)

The TrackVision website describes which models will receive HD here: http://www.kvh.com/Pages/HDTV/TracVision-and-High-definition-TV.aspx. It partly depends on whether you're using DirectTV, Dish Network, etc.

The Tracvision 4 will only receive the select few DirecTV HD channels that have yet to migrate over to the Ka band. It will receive HD on Dish Network. There is no getting around this.
Intellian does have a unit that is similar in size and price to the KVH 4 that will get it done.
