Towing with the biminis

Great point.... the size and means of attachment vary greatly Sport Boat vs. Sport Cruiser what is applicable to a Sport Boat may not be applicable to a Sport Cruiser. I am not sure who "they" is/are but it certainly is not SeaRay. When I called SR cust service @ Knoxville they recommended booting camper and forward bimini and removing aft bimini.

Big ditto:thumbsup:. That is exactly why I stated "I'm basing it on my 240SD setup".

On my 270SD I ran in some poor conditions one weekend. The camper top was folded up with boot on and it racked around enough that it stripped out the mount screws. For towing I would recommend tops down or off.

On my 280DA the dealer left the little arch aft bimni up. I questioned it and he told me it was OK to tow that way and the other bimnis should be folded up w/boots on for towing. The aft bimni zipper pull and the part they mount to were buffeted by the wind enough to break them to pieces. Cheap repair but a PIA. In general I recommend all bimnis be taken off the boat for towing.

I tow the 280DA with cockpit cover on and have had no problems yet. The only time I towed without it I got junk/dirt in the boat and found the transom door latch unhooked(don't know if door actually banged around). As 280SeaRay said take the sink and cooler covers off because they can fly.

Wrapping the arch sounds like a good thing and I'm going to try it next time instead of cleaning up bug guts.

A little off point but have you thought about permits for towing that boat. Most states require permits for anything more than 8'6" beam. Locally you may get away with it but traveling across country maybe different. Just a thought!

All squared away.. just mounted the signage on the front of the truck and swim platform. Got my permits in hand and I think I'm good to go

another item you should consider removing is the cockpit sink and cockpit cooler covers. These things also have a tendency to fly. Good luck with the trailer the boat trailers very well with a decent trailer and proper tow vehicle.

Just thought of that today. I did a bunch of prep work. Removed the biminis and wrapped the ends with shop towels incase they shift and rub. i removed the sink covers, and made a tarp that runs from under the windshield over the instruments, over the captains chair and attaches to the sink grab rail just in case it rains in transit...
