I am looking at a slip in tower marina in douglas. Wondering if anyone has a slip there or has in the past. How is it? We are looking at a slip on the new floating dock by the steamship museum, I am wondering if that is too far from the activities? Any local knowledge is appreciated.

By the way, we are looking there because the price is right. I know signapore yc is a better location, but they get 5-6 grand for a slip over there!

We stayed there in 2004 for the Labor Day week end and enjoyed our visit. The docks were not that great but it sounds like they've made some new improvements. The owners were very nice. Apparently they had planned a party earlier in the month that got rained out. Rather that waste the food, they threw a big party for the entire marina including transient guests. Free beer and great food. They have a nice little pool with lots of shade trees near buy. You can catch some rays or read a book in a nice shadey yard next to the pool. We showered on the boat so I do not know what the facilities are like. They may be a little dated based upon the age of the building. Overall the place seemed to be reasonably well maintained. The Red Dock is within easy walking distance. We are not big party animals but did check it out. If you are a party animal, this place is like going to the semi-finals. It's worth watching for a while if nothing else. You probably know about the life styles of some of the population in the community. There was a large old Hatt that had 30 or so young guys on board that was interesting to watch. They departed every day for their own special beach nearby. This part of Michigan has interesting towns nearby and plenty of good places to eat and enjoy an adult beverage. Should be worth a try for a season as you learn the ins and outs of the area (no pun intended).

Thanks for the response, I appreciate all the good info there.

The dock I am looking at is new, was not in the water a couple years ago. It is right next to the Red Dock, so that might be right up my alley. I like to party when I go boating, weather it's with the wife or buddies.

About the "alternative lifestyles" , I have heard some stories, but have been there a few times for a couple hours and have never seen anything that was not normal for west mich., so I guess I will have to see if that is a problem. I heard that they don't hang out much by the slips though, more at the public beach.

I think I am going to get the slip, it's a great deal and the guy from the marina seems like a great guy. I am going there friday with the wife to check it out and sign up. My first ever slip, other than transient, so we are pumped.

Enjoy the season. It's a great location to boat in and you can go to many places that are fun to visit and near by. Watch your chart. K-lake has shallow areas and the slow no wake zone to the big lake is very strickly enforced by the sherrif.

Just went there today and looked at the slip and marina. Everything looked good and we bought it. Anyone wants to come have a beer some time, let me know! We are right by the old steam ship kewadin, not sure the slip # yet.

We will be up your way mid season and will take you up on the beer.
Will contact you when plans are getting close.
Should be coming up with 3-5 boats from home port of Hammond.

Lots of fun up there!
