Touchscreen vs Buttons?

+1 for hybrid. I installed a Simrad NSS8 two seasons ago and love having both options. I got their $200 rebate on it so I could not pass it up. I don't know what storms Aaron is in that he can't use his touchscreen, that 480 should flatten anything the bay throws at you... LOL

I love having the knob while underway on plane to zoom in and out. The menus are easy to understand and navigate. Love the touch screen for inputting waypoints at the dock. The Navico charts that come with it are pretty nice as well. I have no complaints.

I've been tracking the NSS9 evo2 reman units on line. Waiting to close on my house before buying. But they all disappeared last week. The guys at Gilligan's Marine (https://www.gilligansmarine.com) came up with one. Props! Anyway, I jumped and got it. Spent my chilly Saturday night learning all about it.

Today's job is to hit the panel for flush mounting. So yeah, big fan of the hybrid units!

I agree with the lollygagger that the touch screen is a little more sensitive in chop, a bit tougher to navigate however the complete touchscreen only allows me to fit a larger screen into the same space as the hybrid touch. I may not have room for the 9 inch hybrid but I do have room for a 9 inch GO9. Seemingly I think the 9 inch screen will be much easier to view than a 7 inch with the hybrid touch.

Well after a lot of shopping I think I will likely end with a used Raymarine a78. It's all touch screen however it's wifi so remote controls can be easily added to it. Raymarine has a nice all button control as wel as a steering wheel remote. I think it will give me the best of both and easily expandable in the future for when my old radar dies.
I appreciate everyone's input! I love this forum...has saved me a pile of grief....but added a LOT of computer time to my day!:smt101
