So I get a call yesterday from our slip neighbor asking me if we had heard about the tornados near our boats. Nope, not a clue. It was raining hard at work but I was clueless.

We got the marina owner on the phone and sure enough a tornado hit Colonial Heights, VA and missed our boat by 1/8 of a mile. The entrance road to the marina was hit and trees are down everywhere, but Mrs Robinson is safe and sound...whew!

A close one for sure.

That was close for sure. Pretty nasty, even by Oklahoma standards. Multiple vortexs, EF3 and possibly may be upgraded to an EF4. Very lucky no one was killed. Glad to hear you went unscathed.

I am impressed that you are weather savy enough to note the NWS Fujita rating change to include the (Enhanced) EF3/EF4. For most of the population that change went without so much as an eyebrow being lifted!!

Back to the topic at hand. Having chased tornadoes for many years, seeing the destruction they can/will do, I am very happy to hear that your boat was saved. On an even happier note it appears that no one lost their live at the hand of these storms.

What does this mean in English?

Get out of the way real fast when you hear they are coming. I'm sorry just could not help myself. Good news about your boat. Hope nobody was hurt. Stuff can always be fixed, people can't.

That F4 was down in th Chesapeake area (the city) and I heard on the radio as I was driving around it was off the Norfolk Naval base as well... I went down and checked on my boat in Hampton and she was fine... other than a dead battery. Lots of tree parts everywhere though. I then came home and got yelled at by my wife for walking on my foot.

We had a tornado come by our house a few years ago. It rained corn stalks, and a lot of them, for about 3-4 minutes... Interesting thing is there is no corn field around here that I know of.

I have "lived" through 2 tornados and they scared the crap out of me (not literally though). Mother Nature reminds us from time to time who the boss really is.

No tornado around here. Unfortunately. Considering the amount of "agreed value" insurance I have on the boat and the resale market, a tornado would be good. very very good.

Best regards,
