We just had new canvas put on our 1989 340 Sundancer and are looking to repaint the insets and mounting bolt cover on the radar arch.
Knowing that there is probably no exact match to the Sunbrella captain navy, does anybody have a recommendation on a manufacturer and color?

Thanks,
-Mike

I do not, but if it was me I would just take a piece of canvas to the paint store to match it up. Let the paint guys earn their money. I prefer going to a local paint shop, but you could do it just as easily by comparing samples at a box store yourself.

Greetings Dennis

Are you recommending using some kind of exterior enamel?
Just concerned how something like that might hold up on a boat.

Thanks,

-Mike

Paint such as Awlgrip or Imron would obviously be the best choice. But for such a small area that can be easily redone when needed, I might cheat a little bit. But that's why I would go to a local store (for me, that would be a local Sherwin Williams) and let them suggest something. However, there's another product call EasyPoxy (made by Pettit) that, the more I think about it, would probably be the way I would go. It's meant for applications just like this, but is less expensive than the two-part stuff. I wouldn't say that it is 100% as durable as Awlgrip or Imron, but it's awfully good. The only downside is that you have to pick from the colors that they have (no mixing). But, you may find a color that matches close enough - or if you feel adventurous you could experiment and add a little black to a particular color to darken it up a bit (make small batches - don't do the whole thing).

You're welcome! Remember, that with most things in life, the key here is prep, prep, prep. A little extra time in prepping the surface properly will not only result in a better looking final product, but also make it last longer.

Be careful.... sometimes when you do these small painting projects, it becomes contagious and you start looking for more and more things to paint!
