I've had my boat (20012 215 Express Cruiser 5.0L Alpha One) for about a month and in calm water the top speed I've been able to achieve is 34 MPH @ about 5K RPM. Normal speed that it will stay on plain is 23MPH @ 3000-3100 RPM. From reviews I've read say top speed is 47 MPH @ 4800 RPM and cruising speed 37 @ 3600 RPM. I'm sure that is empty however I feel 13 MPH in the top end is a big difference. Is something wrong or is this normal?

What is the condition of the bottom of your boat? A dirty bottom can effect performance. If the bottom is clean you should have your prop checked and tuned if needed.

Bottom is clean and speed was checked via GPS, top speed was 30kts or 34 mph.

if you are reaching max RPM which it seems @5k RPM - then the PO might have changed the Prop to a lower pitch - or you have prop damage. I don't know the right size for your boat but others here might.

A fouled boat will DECREASE your max RPM.

If PO did a lot of watersports it is quite common to put a lower pitch prop on since it gives you a quicker hole shot so you can pull more skiers.

Find a good Prob dealer who will let you try the different size prop's for your Alpha One so you can get the right one.
