Tom Clancy

There have been a few people who inspired me to be a boater and Tom Clancy was one of them. I have boated since I was a kid, yet only on the upper Chesapeake Bay. Then sometime in the 90's I started to read Clancy. Clancy made the Chesapeake come alive with intriguing places, boats, ships and subs. I had to start exploring Clancy's bay. I've been on the Annapolis street where John Ryan had a shootout and cruised the York River where Red October was hidden. Thank you Tom Clancy.

Me too. I almost named a boat "springer" . I always look up to the next Ryan novel. Sad we won't be reading anymore.

It's noteworthy to this area that two literary giants spent so much time and energy in the Chesapeake Region. Tom Clancy, a South County man ( S. Of Annapolis ) and though James Michener spent more of his life devoted to TX, resided in the St Michaels area of the eastern Shore of Md, inspiring the " The Chesapeake " ....

Carter, that makes three of us that are/were the same age. Kinda sucks when someone many of us "knew" and respected takes his last trip.

I was shocked when I heard the news. I have read Michener's Cheaspeake many years ago and became an avid reader of Tom Clancy books. I will miss not getting any new books from him but will always be thankful that he took the time to write for us.
