Hello,

I am a new owner of a sea ray 300 weekender. I bought the boat back in October. Went down to see it today again for the second time, uncovered it and put all the camper top on checked what I knew to check. Previous owner came over and told me he had new shafts and prop's put on last week and hoped I didn't mind old were ok but he said he changed them every 3 years since he owned the boat and felt that he would feel better giving me new shafts and props to start out fresh. He gave me the old ones as spares and they looked fine to me.
We are planning on bringing her up to Salem Harbor in Massachusetts in a few weeks previous owner wants to take the trip and show me around the boat. I am just so excited I want to do the trip tomorrow but I know the weather is not in our favor so I will put it off a month or so. I am like a kid on Christmas eve. Come on nice weather I'm ready.

He wants to make the trip with me and is as anxious as I am but we know the wind and seas have to be better to make this happen.

Can you tell I am Anxious????

It's very nice that the PO is so concientious. Keep in touch with him; next time he gets two-footitis, you may want to consider his old boat!

tmhudson2,

He is 76 years old and can't handle the boat any longer. He only put 12 hours on the boat last year and hated to see it just sit there. He said he has many friends with boats and will enjoy not having to think about responsibility of maintaining his own boat and just wanted to make someone happy that would enjoy it.
He did no maintenance himself and could not justify anymore giving the marina 8 to 10 thousand a year to maintain his boat and dockyard fees. (his words) I will keep in touch with him he is from what I can see one of the most honest people I have met anywhere. We are both disabled veterans I just hope I can be half the man this man appears to be.

Does he have any other boats for sale!?!?

Let me get this straight: You bought the boat from him five monthes ago, and last week he installed new props and new shafts?

Dude. . .you may be the luckiest man alive.

Best of luck with boat. I being a skeptic a red flag would have gone up.Why spend money on a boat that is no longer yours! HOPE I am wrong.

Congrats. I'm sure you'll love the boat as I have the same boat and am very happy with mine. $10,000 boat maintanance a year is nuts, at least on this type of boat, unless the slip fees were very high. I agree with Quality Time on this one, as replacing the shafts and props are not considered "regular maintainance stuff". Don't get me wrong, the guy probably is very honest and wanting to go with you on your maden voyage indicates that, so therefore the only thing that makes sense here is the marina guys have been taking this guy for a ride. It would be a good idea to get the previous owner to request the maintainance records for two reasons... one, for your own purposes to see what has been replaced in the recent past and ... two, to see why the marina has replaced the props and shafts in the past. Sounds like you got a great boat here but having this information can only serve to help you in the event you require any future repairs/maintainance. Good luck with the boat and post some pics when you get her launched.
