Took our RPX 06' to the marina for a oil and filter change, Called back and upsold me the 60 hr service. First time we rode the ski after the service smoke was coming out the rear @ idle only, when we ran up the rpm's it ran fine. Ater about 10-15 minutes we got oil alarms and shut it down oil was all over the engine and the dip stick was forced out a bit. We towed it back in. Ski is in mint condition with 65 hrs. Service mgr called and said #3 cyl has no compression. He pulled the engine and said don't look like anything they did? I am no mech but sounds like to much oil. Engine is still apart and the ser mgr wants to get someone else to look at it???? Any idea's where do I go from here. Thanks Jim

I wouldn't think it was too much oil but rather the oil filter assembly not being put back on correctly, leading to an oil leak and failure of the cylinder as described. The smoke coming out the back can be a normal sign of the ski operating as it should...depends on how much smoke. The oil filter on these skis (I have an 09) is really not well designed and a common failure point.

I had a 2004 that I always serviced myself. Oil changes are very simple, but there are several o rings that need replaced at every change. If it was not done, it could leak oil everywhere and cause a burned cylinder.

Too much oil would not cause an alarm, but low would.

No smoke comes out of an RXP. It's a 4 stroke.
