I just upgraded anchors to a Delta from the stock danforth, question do you think I need to add a swivel? I have an all chain rode. Seems like one more thing to break if you really don't need it. The factory setup did not have a swivel.

Tiara supplied a swivel with my Delta. Works well.

Yes the current setup (I assume from the factory) is to use a shackle to attach the chain to the anchor.

Sea Ray supplied a swivel fitting with my anchor. The value is when anchoring for an extended period, the swivel helps keep kinks out of the rode, otherwise you get one kink avery time the wind changes direction.

DAMMIT! :smt013 As soon as I hit enter, I knew I was in trouble!:smt021

Are you going to put a breakaway at the shank and have a means of retrieving the anchor if it gets stuck? Lots of money tied up in chain and a new anchor.

I attached a swivel on my anchor and and rode and then had it welded with stainless steel to make sure it wasn't stolen.

It is a good habit to wire the pin closed with stainless wire from your friendly neighborhood marine store to be sure it won't back out

I have one from Bo'suns Supplies... it provides multi-directional movement. The anchor will right itself 95% of the time before it comes into the anchor chute, and it has flush hardware to keep it from catching on the rollers on the anchor chute.
