Hey guys I could use some help. My drives are only trimming down on throttle switches and up on trailer. I jumped the soliniods and they go up I think the switch is bad does anyone have a part number it’s twin engine throttle handle switch on a 06 280 sundancer could it be another problem? Both transom assembly’s are new thanks

What have you done to figure out that the switch at the handle is bad? Chances are, it's the trim limit switch on the drive since the signal goes there first. Look at an electrical diagram and you'll see what I mean. You can also diagnose for sure using the diagram.

Everything is new motors drives and transom assembly’s which includes the hockey pucks

You could be right, but being new isn't a guarantee. Best to diagnose (use wiring diagram) before replacing parts.

What are the chances of two different drive having the same problem and when solinoid is jumped they go up

Sorry two different assembly’s purchased at different times from different locations about 5 months apart

Oh, it's BOTH drives? I missed that. 5 months is close enough to new.

Did they originally work when you put the new stuff back on? While it would be odd for two pucks to all of sudden be bad, it would also be odd for both switches to all of a sudden be bad. In this case, it's more likely something got missed/messed up during reinstall.

Does the trim gauge read properly?

Trim gauge did not read old equipment but it worked when new stuf installed it worked when I tested it a few times on one side then stopped (port) starboard side did not work at all they were installed by two different people (same mistake twice) the gauge still does not read up or down which is not a problem I just want the drives to go up and down I don’t need the gauge to run the the boat

The reason I asked about the gauge is not so much about whether you "need" it - I agree, it's not a necessity. But if you have gauge reading issues... it points more towards the pucks (or how they were installed) as being the issue. Granted the gauge is fed by one puck and the actual operation of the drive by the other -- but if one is wonky....

I hear you it just doesn’t make sense the gauge never worked but the trim did now the still doesn’t work and the trim only goes down is it ok to se trailer switch to go up while underway and throttle switch to go down being that I’m in the water I can’t get to pucks

Remember, the pucks control two different things. One does your gauge, but the other allows you to trim up with the trim button at the handle.

Yes, you can do what you propose. As long as you just don't overtrim "up" - but that particular hull design doesn't usually like much up trim, anyways.

Thanks for your help I appreciate it and yes I will be mindful of that the v8s do like a little up trim but your right the hull doesn’t need much up trim

Would happen to know what model the the throttle controls are? Commander or something else on an 06 280 dancer

Yes, that's a Commander Console mount - maybe the 3500 or 4000 series. I think it's been redesigned - called something like the 4500 series.

You can still get the trim switches - I think they're about $30 each. You should be able to jump the switches and see if the drives move, before replacing, though. Just follow the wiring to the connectors.

go to the trim pump ,unplug the limit switch wiring and place a jumper at the pump side. If it now trims up with the switch at the control handel the limit switches are disconnected or bad
