TN river closed to recreational boats

There is another issue that is not mentioned in the press release....water quality. Run-off from flooded areas contains sewage and gasoline from flooded farms, septic systems, sewage treatment plants and service stations.

Interesting, I know they have stopped letting water out of our lake that flows to the TN River via the Hiwassee river yesterday. I did not know the upper part of TN river was that high??

As a boater on the Tennessee River I often consider myself lucky that I don't have to deal with tides. Mild currents, occasional barge traffic & underwater vegetation is one thing.......Never thought about this though. Thank God for floating docks!

We are indeed fortunate to enjoy relatively consistent water levels. Most of the time! Isn't it possible though for them to halt barge traffic for a few days & allow the lake to drop enough to cause a problem? Anyhow, just pointing out that we don't have to deal with daily tides & floating docks take away any worry.

They have added a correction to the article posted to correct inaccurate information. The Tennessee River is closed from mile marker 206 to mile marker 0. That's from Pickwick Dam to Paducah, KY.

Common sense should tell you to stay off the river right now. When you see entire trees floating down, that's bad.

I hate the trash and sticks/logs in the river during the normal season...let alone after storms (not to mention after the storms of that magnitude). :smt009

We had several bridges here closed for a while. A couple times due to debris backing up on the structures and one when the flood gates were installed.

My road was 17' under the KY River, we had to canoe to work & school. All went back into the banks Friday.
