Survey found a small oil leak at the timing cover of the port 8.1 on a 2003 380 with 295 hours. Guessed about $1k to fix. Sound right? Bigger problem? No problem at all?

Should be a $400 to $500 repair on that engine. If the leak is not too bad I would not concern myself about it. Leaks on the 8.1 are rare and I would probably want to put 50 go 100 hours on the engine to see just how bad it is before I would let somebody touch the engine. It could be only just a slight seepage.

Good Luck

Charles,

How many hours on the engines? I haven't looked at my timing covers, but I would think you could get to a couple of the bolts and tighten them up.

How did everything else come out on the survey?

Did you look at Park Marine for a slip?

Less than 300 hours, and overall the survey was what we expected. Some minor stuff...the boat was pretty sloppily maintained so I have to go back through and get it baselined so I will be comfortable, but overall didn't even look used. Was originally purchased by Carl Pickens, the wide receiver out of Tennessee. Apparently taken by him on a Bahamas trip for 40 or so total hours when brand new, the rest of the time it has been at Lanier.

They tell me that dock 10 is full right now, but (ominously) there is going to be some "movement" shortly that will open up a 40' slip. Until then, they may let me squat on 11. They said it kindly, but I have a sneaking suspicion they want to limit dock damage during my learning curve.

Dobson is doing a great job squeezing his new 380 in and out - they've got one boat "chained" for lack of payment on Dock 10. That's how I got in last year - they moved a "non-payer" out to another dock.

Looking forward to seeing you - when is the delivery date?

yes their is a boat on the dock that is chained(for about 2 months).Dock 10 is great. Everyone likes to have fun, but it is at the same time family friendly. We all enjoy tieing up and just hanging out.

Please private message me, I know this boat and who has owned over the years. I am in Kittery,Maine at the navy sub base right now but will be back in Georgia on Thursday. I will be able to check this website sporadically over the next 36 hours.
