I think last night was the last straw. Our problems began about 3 years ago. I had replaced the exhaust over the winter, and the boat ran fine a couple times then got water in the engine. Payed a mechanic about $2500 to rebuild the top end, took all summer, ran it only once or twice, the day I took it out of the water for the winter it had oil in the bilge. Next season just limped along at idle (it wouldn't leak oil up to about 2000 rpm). Another mechanic looked at it and said the first guy hadn't installed the intake manifold well and it was leaking. I reinstalled the manifold this spring and it's still getting oil leaking somewhere from the aft, port side, but otherwise was running fine. Last night we took some friends out to go to a restaurant about an hour away. Got near there slowed down to idle and noticed it was running very rough, like I had something tangled in the prop. Engine stopped. Tried to restart and the starter only whirred, but didn't seem to engage. Party over, storm coming, called towboat, now it's sitting in a marina. The Admiral is sick of having a boat that never works or never makes it home (3rd tow in two years). It's got about 550 hours on it. It's either a new boat or a new engine and I think a new engine will be a whole lot cheaper.
It's an MCM5.7L 350 MAG ser# 0f321148 w/ a Bravo II #0f321148. I'm not really looking to increase power, but should I replace the drive along with it, and who do recommend? Any idea what installation should cost? Thanks!

Hi there
We are currently going through a similar scenario with a 1994 model and my advice is to remove the transom assembly whilst the engine is out and check for transom damage from water and replace the seal.
