I have a 91 Sea Rea 270 Sundancer with a single 454 Mercruiser. The issue that I have is once one plain, the boat is extremely sensitive back and forth. Adjusting the trim tabs helps but if anyone moves around or I need to make a turn, the boat will either dive into the turn or stay straight and just "bow over".
My question is... is this normal? Each time I need to adjust the trim tabs I "bump" bow up or down to level off then wait a moment or two. I am constantly adjusting trim for all turns, wave's any movement in the boat.
Should be using the "tilt" (trailering mode for outdrive) adjust a bit as well in conjunction with the trim tabs? Any help/suggestions would greatley help.

I've seen several threads on this. I've always run outdrive all the way down and just used the tabs. I never use the trim.

What you describe (always making adjustments) is consistent with how my boat handles as well. I am currious if we're doing something wrong. I have seen the auto trim tab control unit which will adjust the tabs for you based on a baseline setting but the unit is a bit cost prohibitive for me right now. I usually cruise with my trim (not tilt) about half way up (so that would be 1/4 way up on the trim/tilt gauge). I am currious what others write back with.

These old 270's run bow proud due to their design, so, yes they don't turn well and are sensitive to weight changes. I usually put my outdrive at about 3/8 which is just short of causing cavitation. I make sweeping turns rather than trying to force it to do something that it can not do. Using the trim tabs does help to make a turn. You give up handling when you buy a small boat that has a large cabin area compared to the cockpit area. Look at the picture below, I'm problably running at 28-29, but, the boat is sitting down on it's honches.
