Hello All:
We finally launched this weekend, and had a problem with the trim up/down switch. Our boat is a 1992 200BR, 5.0 with Alpha1, Gen2. I prepped the boat in the driveway: lowered the drive and connected the muffs. I started the engine and ran for about 20 minutes with no issue. When we were ready to travel, I raised the drive with the “trailer” button – no issues. We launched into Lake Wylie, and idled out of the cove. Got right up on plane, and went to trim the drive up and nothing happened. No movement, no noise, not even from the solenoid. I was able to trim up using the trailer button, and the down button works normally. The control is the original black plastic Quicksilver surface mount, with the “throttle only” button at the pivot point.
Any thoughts on what the cause might be?
Thank you,
John

I have had the trim limit sensor go bad. it is the just like the trim position sender, but on the port side of the drive. This is how the drive knows to stop going up when you are under way, so that it doesn't continue to the trailer position and damage u-joints. Sort of how the position senders fail and your gauge doesn't read correctly, the limit sensor fails and the drive won't trim up, because it thinks it is already at max trim.
I don't know how to test it, I'm sure they is a way to use a voltmeter on the wires. But like the position sender, I think you have to pull the drive to do it.
