That looks like the UMT Turnbuckle?….. do you mean you made your own cable ?These are ones I made myself (basically copied UMT Marine) after getting tired of ratchet straps continually loosening while underway. These have never moved.

Do you mean a regular turnbuckle …..without lock nuts or a fancy handle ?Never had one loosen.
I believe the "fancy handle" has the fulcrum you referenced earlier, but I may be mistaken.Do you mean a regular turnbuckle …..without lock nuts or a fancy handle ?

so …. Does the turnbuckle vibrate loose while underway?…. That’s why it needs to be locked….. that is a bit surprising to me
What is that black sleeve you have over the cable?I made my tie downs with the parts I posted earlier in this thread using UMT's design as inspiration, and yes I made my own cable. The pics shown are the "locking" turnbuckle in the open position. I've never had it open, or vibrate loose while under way.

These turnbuckles are great. Mine never loosen but now I don’t need to bring the wrench out on the platform with me. Thanks for the link.i also found a source for the C.S. Johnson Marine Handy Lock Turnbuckle. The last time I made them I spent a little time at my ACE Hardware back in the stainless cable area to make up the cables, and then finished them off with shrink tube. (let me know if you need any pics, and I can stop by the boat.)
I meant to catch you on an option. O well. Anyways I use only one of those locking turnbuckles installed on the bow of the dinghy. Two fixed length lanyards cross on the back of the dinghy attaching to the swim deck about 25 inches apart - the dinghy needs to slide back a bit to get those attached then push it forward. That single turnbuckle on the bow pulls the boat more forward and cinches it down tight. As the dinghy is pulled forward the lanyards on the back of the dinghy pull and cinch that back end down. I can have that dinghy lashed and ready to go in five minutes.Ordered all my parts let's see how long it takes to get them.
I like this idea…… but since all the weight is in the stern….. wouldn’t it be better to have the fixed lanyard on the front and the two turnbuckles on the back?I meant to catch you on an option. Tom pics please. I have only ordered parts and a spool of cable. I have the crimp tool so I plan to make all my own stuff. Since my dinghy will be on my Hurley H3O+ davit system I will customize it to my liking so would love to see your set up also.I meant to catch you on an option. O well. Hi Grant
The Dinghy is not on the boat right now. But as soon at I get back on I'll get some pics.
I have lost patience with the ratchet type. I saw on here some time ago a rod or cable type. I did a search on here (which sucks by the way) and the internet and didn’t find anything. Does anyone know what I am talking about ?
