Hi all, 1988 30' SeaRay Weekender with 2x 260hp 5.7L's Mercruisers.

I needed to run the engine without starting so I removed the wire from the top of the HT Coil.
I noticed a spark from the center over to one of the terminals. After reconnecting everything I get no spark. Could I have fried the Amplifier?

It's not the first time I seen people doing this when working on their boat and a fairly expensive module should have some protection circuitry in the front end.

Has anyone had any experience in this area?

Many thanks....

Yes you probably damaged the amplifier. You should have connected the high voltage lead from the coil to ground. Nothing else to do other than replace it.

The amplifier was fine ended up needing to replace the ignition sensor in the distributor. This does not get high voltage so must have been due. Thanks for your input was ready to cut the check...
