Can I pull the thru hull transducer to clean the bottom while it is in the water. I have a plug but I am not sure this can be done without water rushing in.

On my boat you can pull the transducer in the water but it does mean water rushes in until you get the "plug" in. If you decide to try this make sure you don't have your face directly over the hole because the water can shoot pretty high. :wow:

Guys, we're talking about opening 2 3/8" whole from the very bottom of your boat. You better have ALL the ducks in the row or else..........you know what I mean. Sometimes people pay way lot more but taking shortcuts to save some bucks. I'm not saying this is not posible, I'm just saying that it may not be worth the trouble over ~$200-$300 haul out.

that what plug is for:) you are going to be wet a little :) and make sure that bilge pumps are in working condition. some thru hull fittings have flap built inside to slow water down, but it will come inside no matter what. you have to be quick or you end up with many gallons of water inside bilge.

I'm with Alex on this. Perhaps it's just that I haven't done it, so I'm not familiar with the process. But opening up a 2" hole in the bottom of the boat, then hoping you can get the plug in (or the transducer back in), seems nutso.

I can't even imagine trying to explain this to the insurance company if it went south. At least do it in shallow water...

That's why some of you guys pay few hundreds of dollars for a job what can be done in 15 mins. In 20 years in marine business I never heard of anyone sinking his boat because he removed transducer and installed plug instead. If this would be a problem there would be no company what will provide plug with their transducers, and transducers itself would be no user removable to avoid possible lawsuits. If you know what are you doing, it is perfectly safe, it's done thousands of time a year and those boats are still afloat.
